[Bookplate by University of British Columbia] The bookplate is a dedication bookplate recognizing a specific collection, as well as the benefactors that rendered it possible for The University of British Columbia to acquire it. The bookplate has no art, symbols, or colour on it, and appears to be only a dedication. 2. [Bookplate for David L. G. Dryden] A yellow frame surrounds the central image. The central image is of a young man in medieval armour leading a white horse to the left of the image. The image is in a forest setting with several trees observable. Two notable trees are standing, one on the left, and one on the right side of the man providing a frame for the image. The entire scene is evocative of a Pre-Raphaelite painting. 3. [Bookplate for Edmund Murton Walker by Thoreau MacDonald] In black ink on white paper, a dragonfly is flying past some large rocks next to a body of water, likely a river. In the background is a forest of tall evergreen trees. 4. [Bookplate for Edsel Fort Memorial Library] Colour ink on white paper. Coat of arms at centre of plate. Shield has a red (gules) field. Three escalops on yellow (or). Crest in an eagle displayed. Text has also been rubber stamped on and written in pencil. 5. [Bookplate for Eliza Ann Taylor and Michael B. Kunze] Colour ink on white paper. Gold outer border. Inner border is floral pattern on pink background. Text box at centre right. 6. [Bookplate for Ellen A. Hoffman by Walter J. Phillips] This wood-engraved bookplate's design is based from on a view near Lake Louise in Banff, Alberta. It features a running stream, grass, and trees. Bookplate image is surrounded by a stylized border, which features the grass of parnassus, which is also featured in the foreground of the scene. Bookplate is printed in black ink, on very thin paper. 7. [Bookplate for Ferdinand I Czar of Bulgaria] In black ink, this complex bookplate contains an escutcheon divided quarterly ; the first and fourth quadrants contain a lion, salient and crowned (it is unclear what colour these quadrants would be due to the printing process) ; the second quadrant, argent (silver) contains two pallets, likely sable (black), and a sable chief charged with two crowns, argent, possibly signifying eastern or celestial crowns ; and the third quadrant, argent, contains two manche facing one another, with arms and hands emerging, together holding a crown. At the fess point is an inescutcheon, which bears the coat of arms of Saxony ; barry of ten pieces, or (gold) and sable, with a garter (vert), floral invection on sinister side. The escutcheon is crested by a royal crown framed by a circular halo. The escutcheon is supported by two lions, wearing royal crowns, each also framed by a circular halo. From around the waist of each lion descends a collar which meets at the nombril point below the escutcheon ; from this point hangs the Grand Cross Of The Order Of Saint Cyril and Saint Methodius. At either side of the order is a banner containing the originator's designation. Above the crest and supporters are two sets of fleur-de-lis, two over one, signifying the House of Bourbon ; and an additional banner. 8. [Bookplate for Frances Radbill and Frederick Starr] Bookplate consists of two Japanese figures in traditional Japanese dress and style. Female on the right has a robe of flowers and flowers in hair. Cherry branch in background. A Japanese lantern is placed below bookplate image and text at bottom left. Bookplate is in colour. 9. [Bookplate for Frederick Claude Vivian Lane and Frederick Starr] Colour woodblock print. In black, blue, nude, red and white ink. Image of birds in water with a fire in a basket at top left and (possibly) a boat top right. 10. [Bookplate for Frederick Starr] Colour woodblock print in two blocks. In yellow and blue ink. Hovering above the water is an angel with hands in prayer, surrounded by several pairs of feathered wings. Stars appear in the heavens above and a fully risen sun or holy light glows from behind the angel's wings. 16. [Bookplate for Jeanie Lea Southwick and Frederick Starr] Colour woodblock print. Image of a Japanese Shinto shrine, a Torii gate, overlooking landscape and a mountain, presumably Mount Fuji. Bookplate image and texts contained within a bamboo border, with bookplate text at top and bottom. 17. [Bookplate for Joseph Berreth and Michael B. Kunze] In black ink, an image of a knoll, on top of which are two leafless trees and a lamp centered between them. In the background is a cloud that frames the image. 18. [Bookplate for Mary Katharine Black by Thoreau MacDonald] This pictorial engraving was created using black ink on white paper and portrays an island with two wind-swept trees with a rising/setting sun on the horizon. 19. [Bookplate for Rob. S. Atcheson] In black ink, this bookplate contains a rooster atop a horn, which is itself atop a straight wreath. The rooster is a common heraldic symbol that stands for vigilence. Above the rooster is a banner containing the latin motto. 20. [Bookplate for University of British Columbia Library] Colour ink on white paper. University shield is at top, in blue and gold ink. Text is below.
